Jackson “Jack” Slater can’t believe when he hears the psychic cry for help from Sara Temple.  His ex-fiancée is the last person he ever expected to contact him and all he wants to do is continue his archeological digs. Instead, he gives in and finds himself in the midst of chaos. Something- or someone- is killing wizards and Sara is right in the middle of things. Sara has tried to deny her magical heritage, knowing that use of her magic always has dire consequences. Unfortunately, the Wizard Council is demanding that Sara and Jack work together to get to the bottom of things as they fear the entire world is at stake.

I haven’t read any books by Cherry Adair but have been curious about how her blend of paranormal romance and romantic suspense compares next to other authors I have faithfully read. And wow,  what can I say other than I’m sorry I’ve been missing out on reading these books as BLACK MAGIC is sheer fun!

Cherry Adair does a great job with world building once the story kicks in. The prologue had me a bit concerned that we were going to have too much information dumped at once, but thankfully the paranormal elements are smoothly integrated throughout the rest of the tale. I like the idea of two races battling it out and the quick pace of the story ramps up the tension quite a bit. BLACK MAGIC is easily a stand alone tale although there is a slight tie to her earlier books with the appearance of Duncan Edge.

BLACK MAGIC reminds me a bit of a supernatural version of Indiana Jones. Jack’s archeological background and hatred of snakes are the obvious reasons but it is also the fun, engaging storyline mixed with an alternate history of the world that solidifies this. I’m curious to read some of Cherry Adair’s other books, particularly the ones featuring the Edge family to see how these fit into the world found in BLACK MAGIC. Easily recommended!

My name is Debbie and I love to read just about anything. My favorite books, however, are generally paranormal romances. I am a social worker with the school system in Florida so I get a lot of time off in the summer to read (except when I'm sitting in the dark with no ac thanks to a hurricane)! I'm happily married and have 2 doggie children. I also enjoying working out, "American Idol", and cheering on the Tampa Bay Lightning hockey team.
