William Wolf, Lord Sandine, is determined to put an end to the grisly work of the agent known as Spider, even if it means working for the Adrianglian version of the Secret Service (called the Mirror). His quest to stop the killing of changelings leads him to the Mire, a swampy part of the Edge, and right into the middle of the feud between the Mars and the Sheeriles. Cerise Mar is dealing with her own problems. With the recent disappearance of her parents, she is now the temporary head of her clan- and the one who must decide how to fight back against the Sheeriles, the main suspects in her parents’ disappearance. Have the Sheeriles teamed up with Spider? What horrors will William and Cerise encounter as they each seek vengeance?

BAYOU MOON is the second book in The Edge series but can easily be read as a stand alone. However, I would recommend reading ON THE EDGE first, both becomes it offers an introduction to the world as a whole and to aid in understanding the character of William.

Ilona Andrews always does an exceptional job with world building and character development and BAYOU MOON is no exception. The world Cerise and William is quite complex, as the various factions and levels of magic exist in a kind of caste system. The main characters are intriguing although I must admit that some of the secondary characters interested me even more so. Can we hope that a story involving Lark or some of the other members of the Mars’ family is in the works?

Readers who like their urban fantasy on the lighter side should beware- BAYOU MOON is a dark, often gruesome tale that shows evil in a horrific light. Spider is accompanied by his group of mutilated, altered beings called the Hand and some of the things they do are beyond disgusting. The violence isn’t gratuitous, however, but instead shows just how dark the world of the Edge is. The Mire is known for being inhabited by criminals and Ilona Andrews uses this to the full effect. BAYOU MOON is a fascinating, sometimes even disturbing, urban fantasy that takes readers on one heck of a wild ride. Highly recommended!

My name is Debbie and I love to read just about anything. My favorite books, however, are generally paranormal romances. I am a social worker with the school system in Florida so I get a lot of time off in the summer to read (except when I'm sitting in the dark with no ac thanks to a hurricane)! I'm happily married and have 2 doggie children. I also enjoying working out, "American Idol", and cheering on the Tampa Bay Lightning hockey team.
