When Catherine Newbury’s father is falsely imprisoned, she must make a difficult journey from England to America. Disguising herself as a servant’s daughter, she is forced to create a new life as a seamstress in Philadelphia. But as her dress designs become highly sought after, Catherine must decide if the risk of discovery is worth it—especially when she suddenly encounters her past face-to-face.

Carter Danby indulges his mother and sister by accompanying them to the dressmaker’s shop, but it is he who finds his heart’s desire there when he meets Catherine. There’s something familiar about her and he’s determined to figure out what. Though Catherine cannot deny the attraction between her and Carter, revealing the truth about her identity may jeopardize any hope of her father’s release.  Will Catherine trust Carter with the secrets of her heart?

A LADY OF HIDDEN INTENT is an all-out charming read. From page one, readers will delight in Catherine’s spunky personality and ache for the trials she must face. When she encounters Carter, the sparks really fly. I especially loved Carter’s wit throughout the book and the affectionate way he teased Catherine.

Ms. Peterson once again includes a fabulous secondary cast of characters that add a bit of flavor to the story. Between Catherine’s rival, Felicia, and the Shays (the servants posing as Catherine’s parents), each unique character is brought to life by Ms. Peterson’s vivid pen. Readers will also love the sweet subplot between Carter’s sister Winifred and his best friend Lee.

Through Catherine’s hardships readers learn an inspiring lesson: God will never desert you, even in the bleakest time of your life. Catherine had to struggle with this notion, believing she was fighting a losing battle all on her own. But she comes to realize that God was always fighting beside her. By bringing Carter back into her life, God answered her prayers, providing Catherine with the means to free her father—and giving her happiness beyond measure in the process.

A LADY OF HIDDEN INTENT is a great book for anyone who believes they are alone in this world. It is a story of faith and love for those struggling with the tribulations thrown in our paths. This uplifting tale is sure to renew even the most scarred spirit.
