A horrific event changed all of their lives fifteen years ago….

Renee Lincoln, Lacey Talbot, and Sherra Salinger had practically nothing in common except each attended JD Whitcomb’s party on that fateful night. Now, fifteen years later, each woman is returning home to Madison. Are the series of incidents all related to the night of the party? And can these three survivors rise above the horrors of the past to find happiness?

CHAINS is told through the eyes of Renee, Lacey, and Sherra in three interrelated stories. Shiloh Walker does a phenomenal job at showing readers the events unfolding through their eyes as it adds a unique perspective. Each segment shifts back in time to 1994 briefly and provides readers with each woman’s perspective on the night of the party. Shiloh Walker handles these shifts superbly, as every instant sheds new light on the events rather than feeling like a rehash of the same old story.

Renee, Lacey, and Sherra are an unlikely trio of friends. In 1994 while in high school, their cliques are radically different. Renee is expected to conform to societal expectations and always appear a lady while Lacey is a high achiever with goals and dreams. Sherra, on the other hand, is considered the “bad girl.” Shiloh Walker takes us underneath those stereotypes and shows us the true heart of each one of these women. Their strength and sense of survival is beautiful to see, even amid the horrors they have encountered. Abuse and rape are appalling crimes and so many idly stand by, fearing it’s not their business to “intrude”… but Lacey, Renee, and Sherra all take stands and their characters are worthy of cheering for doing so. Bravo to Shiloh Walker for writing not only another intense and emotional story but for reminding us that taking a stand against evil isn’t wrong.
