Chase Melancon has plans for the old Belle Vista Plantation house he just inherited from the late patriarch of the Rousseau family. When he comes home to restore to old home, he is surprised to see Julienne Rousseau, his long ago love, already living there. Julienne has been through a very rough time and came to Belle Vista to await Chase’s return after her brothers, Hugo and Wyatt, turned their backs on her in her moment of need. But the brothers have their own plans for the plantation and don’t want to let anyone interfere.

Chase has always loved Julienne and was heartbroken when she seemingly abandoned him all those years ago. He joined the Army to try to forget about her and the last thing he expected upon returning to the house was Julienne. Julienne has been emotionally scarred by a traumatic event in her recent past and is afraid to let any man, even Chase, too close to her.

I enjoyed watching Chase and Julienne overcome their fears to finally be together at the same time I thought the resolution happened awfully fast. Granted, it had to happen quickly due to the constraints of a short story but the events that turned Julienne into a shell of her former self I cannot imagine anyone to go from terrified to passionate in the space of about 24 to 48 hours.

Just enough action was blended into the mix in the form of Hugo and Wyatt and their designs on Belle Vista. This added just the right amount of suspense to really liven up the story.

Bayou Reunion is a pleasant read to be enjoyed in a short amount of time and to give readers a taste of Rebecca York’s writing style. This is especially convenient for someone who may be looking for a new author to follow.
