Heiress Haven Travis refuses to rely on either her family’s money or their notoriety. Instead, she prefers to make her own way, even when that course includes marrying a man her family does not approve of. But Haven finds out the man is not what she thought he was, and her marriage becomes a daily dangerous minefield she’s forced to navigate. Two years later, Haven returns home determined not to engage in any further relationships that might prove hazardous to more than just her heart. And Hardy Cates is at the top of the list. A self-made millionaire from a trailer park in Welcome, Texas, Hardy has made his money by ruthlessly climbing his way to the top of Houston’s oil industry—making himself an enemy of the Travis family in the process. But there’s something about Haven that calls to him, and he’s willing to do anything to win her heart. After reading SUGAR DADDY, I couldn’t wait to dive into BLUE-EYED DEVIL. I had to know what happened to Hardy Cates with a desperation that bordered on an obsession. I tore through the book at break-neck speed, devouring every word and letting the story wash over me in poignant waves. When I reached the last page, all I could think was this: BLUE-EYED DEVIL is one of the best books I’ve ever read. Like SUGAR DADDY, there’s something about BLUE-EYED DEVIL that worms its way into your soul. It’s not an easy read; there are many heart-wrenching moments that punch you in the gut and have you reaching for your tissues. But it’s the underlying message of hope on every page that makes the book such an inspiring one. Ms. Kleypas does a fabulous job bringing the issue of domestic violence to light in a realistic, and sometimes terrifying way. Haven becomes real to the reader, her sorrow becomes our sorrow, and her fear our fear. And we root for Haven on every step of her journey as if she were family. Though the story is told entirely in Haven’s point of view, Ms. Kleypas somehow manages to convey his thoughts and feelings by his actions towards Haven. I have to admit that at the end of SUGAR DADDY I wasn’t sure whether I liked this “new” Hardy. He’d acquired a jaded superficiality that hadn’t been there in his youth and I felt he’d acted a bit callously towards Liberty. But, in BLUE-EYED DEVIL Ms. Kleypas completely redeemed his character for me. He is such a three-dimensional hero that readers can’t help but fall for him. What more can I say? BLUE-EYED DEVIL is a must read. I guarantee it will become a treasured favorite. Don’t miss it!
