Lizbeth Caldwell returns to her home town to hide from a stalker, never expecting him to follow her. But she soon finds he is much more than she can handle on her own… Just like her old high school friend, Tom. Never in her wildest dreams did she imagine the skinny boy she knew years ago would grow up into the warrior determined to protect her at all costs now, nor did she imagine the effect the adult Tom would have on her neglected libido – not to mention her heart! Thomas Giancomo has loved Beth for years. He is determined to rekindle their friendship and hopefully ignite something more… But first, he must protect her from the unknown stalker who threatens her at every turn. Denise A. Agnew’s novella Body Language is a beautiful example of a well done short story! She packs the tale with more information than you realize, without once losing the natural flow of the story. While there are a handful of supporting characters to advance the plot, she keeps the story fully centered on Tom and Beth the entire time, allowing their romance full opportunity to blossom before our eyes. The primary plot is definitely their budding romance, and the stalker serves as a catalyst to propel them into each other’s arms, to admit their feelings. As such, most of the detail with the stalker happens ‘off-camera’, so to speak, and is told by the main characters. I never seem to tire of reading about childhood friends who have reunited, with one harboring a long unrequited love, and Body Language was certainly no different. Tom is guaranteed to foster fantasies for many of us that will keep us going to our high school reunions time and time again. If I thought for one minute there was a man like Thomas Giancomo waiting for me back home, I’d move back in a minute! LOL Beth speaks to that woman in all of us who is determined to do things on her own, and is used to being independent, to the point she has a hard time asking for help when she really does need it. While she is certainly no wilting flower, she does finally realize that there is no weakness in accepting the help of others – especially from the man she loves. Body Language was so well told, that it is still difficult for me to believe it was only twenty-eight pages long (PDF format). The page number may have been low, but I would never say this wasn’t a full story. If you are looking for a great read that is quick, hot, and guaranteed to pull at your heart strings, then definitely pick up a copy of Body Language!
