Zoey Redbird is a fledging vampyre who has been named the leader of the Dark Daughters. Her best vampyre friend, Stevie Rae, died in book two but is back, sort of, as some kind of new undead creature. Zoey is determined to help her friend, but can't tell anyone what is going on since she also discovered in book two that their High Priestess, Nerefet, has turned evil. If that were not enough to keep the young vampyre-in-training totally confused, now she suddenly has three boyfriends and enemies are turning into friends (?) and Zoey doesn't know who to trust. Another great chapter in the on-going saga of Zoey Redbird's life at the House of Night. While this is an older teen series, adults will fully enjoy them as well. This book continues stories that were set up in book two with Zoey struggling with continued estrangement from her parents as well as finding herself battling against forces she doesn't understand as she tries to help her friends and stay true to her goddess Nyx. While I enjoyed this book a great deal, readers should be warned that story lines are not resolved and Zoey is left in a tough spot once again at the end of this book. Zoey is a likeable character who struggles with grown-up situations and choices before she is ready to make them. Yummy Erik from the earlier books is back, yet did not have as large a role as I would have liked in the story. The Casts continue to build their new world as Zoey learns new facts about living as a vampyre in the House of Night. Reviewed by Crystal |
