It is another Christmas Eve for Noel Harris without his soulmate, Nancy, who had died of cancer five years before. Noel is determined this year to move past the crushing depression that swamps him each year at this time and is putting up a Christmas tree to prove it. Upon plugging in the Christmas tree lights, a small beautiful woman appears just as a light pops. Natala has been trapped in the Christmas tree light bulb for years but now she is free. She needs Noel to help her defeat the demon who imprisoned her, but neither of them expected the attraction that flared between them. This Christmas novella by Yolanda Sfetsos (author of the Fae-Hunters Series, also from Cobblestone Press) is a delightfully warm fantasy story sure to add cheer to your holiday reading. It stands alone, and the other books from the 12 books series are not related. Noel is a sensitive, grieving man who needs to find renewed hope. Natala is an intriguing female character, a mixture of innocence, wisdom and strength. The Otherworld described by Natala is vivid, yet the reader is left wishing for a longer tale in which these lands and their inhabitants could be explored in more depth. The author uses excellent pacing and unfolds the story in such a natural way that the surprises around each corner seem totally reasonable and fun. There is explicit sexual content which is meaningful for the plot and tastefully done as well as one other short scene of violence. I highly recommend Christmas Lights for a welcome break from your holiday tasks. Reviewed by Crystal |
