Framed for a crime he didn't commit, Duncan Campbell has lived the last ten years as an outlaw. Now, he has returned to the Highlands, determined to clear his name, but to do so, he needs the help of the girl who once betrayed him. Jeannie Gordon is no longer a starry-eyed girl. She is a full grown, sensual woman who has never quite forgotten the man who broke her heart and left without a backward glance. When Duncan comes back into her life, she does what any sensible woman would do: she shoots him. The old passion flares back to life between them as if not a day has gone by, but Jeannie cannot forgive Duncan for his mistrust of her. Caught up in a sinister plot of murder and intrigue, Jeannie and Duncan must set aside past hurts and work together if they are to have a second chance for love. Reunion romances. Sigh. I absolutely adore them. There is nothing more satisfying to me than two broken hearts who get a second chance with the one person they can't forget. Couple that with sexy Highlanders and sharply plotted intrigue, and you've given me an un-put-downable book! Monica McCarty has become my new favorite MUST READ author. Every page of her stories are filled with tension, drama, passion, emotion and danger. HIGHLAND SCOUNDREL has it all, and at the heart is a very poignant love story between an amazing hero and heroine. Duncan has had to learn to live with the fact that he was born the illegitimate son of a chieftain. He learned to compensate for the circumstances of his birth by proving his self-worth and becoming indispensible to his father. But when his father dies in a bloody battle, and Duncan is branded a traitor and framed for his crimes, he loses everything--including Jeannie Gordon, the woman he wanted to marry. Jeannie loved Duncan with all her heart, but his accusations of her betrayal forced them apart. To protect a secret, she married another. Ten years later her husband is dead and Duncan comes back into her life, every bit as appealing as she remembered. But she has too much at stake to give into the familiar, heady passion between them. I loved how Monica McCarty didn't rely on misunderstandings between Jeannie and Duncan to carry the plot. Sure, they each believed things about the other that weren't 100% true, but the conflict goes beyond those wrong beliefs. Page after page, the characters are continually forced into difficult and painful decisions that grow organically as the plot progresses. HIGHLAND SCOUNDREL is an emotional read. This compelling book will grab your heart and engross you in the Medieval Highlands. If you're looking to be swept away with a fast-paced, captivating, heart-stopping book, than HIGHLAND SCOUNDREL is a must read for you. Highly recommended.
