Dogwalker Rylee Monroe takes her job very seriously. After losing her parents at a young age and growing up with just her and her grandmother, she treats her clients like the family she's never had. When a thief known as the Robin Hood Burglar, starts systematically stealing from her clients, Rylee becomes the center of a mystery that begins to unravel only when secrets from her past are revealed. Logan Woods is a reporter who is hot on the trail of Robin Hood Burglar. He decides to keep a close eye on Rylee and soon becomes enamored of her fresh-face and strong loyalty. When the cops close in on her as their prime suspect, he realizes it is up to him to unmask the real Robin Hood Burglar and prove Rylee's innocence. I have always been a fan of Deeanne Gist, so I was excited to see her take her writing in a different direction. Her collaboration with J. Mark Bertrand has resulted in an interesting, fast-paced crime mystery with just the right dash of romance. Though I suspected the culprit very early on in the book, the real intrigue of this story comes from uncovering the secrets of Rylee's past. Gist and Bertrand do a fabulous job of slowly laying down threads that weave together and culminate in the final denouement. Gist's background in romance shines in the sections between Logan and Rylee. I loved watching how their perceptions of one another changed as they got to know each other better. Gist also does a wonderful job showing Rylee's hesitation at falling in love and questioning Logan's motives. BEGUILED is one of those books readers can sit back and enjoy. It is easy and pleasurable to read, the mystery is intriguing enough to keep you interested, and the romance will make you smile. Kudos to Gist and Bertrand for a successful collaboration!
