After a broken engagement, Eden Paxton leaves San Francisco for Colorado in the hopes of a better life. But when her train is robbed, murderous outlaws kidnap her intent on selling her across the Mexican border.

Matthew Coulter has been hunting the outlaws ever since they murdered his wife. When he catches up with them and realizes they have another woman at their mercy, he vows to rescue her and finally exact his revenge on the gang. As Matthew and Eden run for their lives, they form a strong bond. But will that bond be strong enough to withstand Matthew’s obsession for revenge?

Catherine Anderson always manages to write heartfelt stories about strong men and the even stronger women who love them. EARLY DAWN fits that motif beautifully. From the opening pages, Ms. Anderson’s trademark style draws readers into a tale of two people who are thrown together by fate, and who find an everlasting love.

I loved that Eden is a strong, capable heroine who meets challenges head on. Instead of hiding behind Matthew, she fights beside him. Matthew is a man who is bound by honor. He doesn’t take the easy way out, he does what is right regardless of how it will hurt, yet he is also driven by a burning revenge that gets in the way of his relationship with Eden.

This book is a little bit edgier than some of Ms. Anderson’s other books, dealing with some hard-hitting issues like violence, revenge, and sexual abuse. However, Ms. Anderson manages to strike just the right balance by peppering it with sweet, humorous moments that will leave you with a smile on your face and warm-fuzzies in your heart. And of course I enjoyed the opportunity to re-visit the Paxtons and Keegans, who continue to be beloved characters.

EARLY DAWN is another wonderful book from Catherine Anderson. She is one author who never disappoints.
