Wade O'Reilly, catcher for the Heat, has played fast and loose and now his lifestyle has caught up with him. One of the Heat's major sponsors is threatening to pull their endorsement if Wade's image doesn't improve. Samantha McNead, head publicist for the Heat, is tasked with the job of babysitting Wade by pretending to be his girlfriend for a month.

Sam has never forgotten the very steamy hours she'd spent stuck in an elevator with Wade, but she's determined to put it out of her mind and do the job. But Wade is just as determined to remind her of the fireworks between them at every turn.

Before I start this review, I have a confession to make. I devour every book that Jill Shalvis writes. Her sexy, humorous, emotional, stories have the power to make my day. One chapter of her un-putdownable books is never enough. I loved DOUBLE PLAY and was chomping at the bit for SLOW HEAT. And, I have to say, I think I have a new favorite Shalvis book. SLOW HEAT is absolutely amazing from beginning to end.

I love how Jill Shalvis always manages to get to the heart of relationships. Whether it's man-to-woman, or friend-to-friend, or father-to-son, Ms. Shalvis always nails the dynamic perfectly. She gives her characters tough problems without easy solutions, and as the story unfolds, readers get to seem them take the wrong path, time and again, knowing that by the end of the book they will find the right one.

Sam and Wade have an amazing chemistry, their banter is hilarious and charming, and the soft moments between them are both poignant and sweet. Ms. Shalvis never forgets the main ingredient of a romance novel: emotion. SLOW HEAT has plenty of it. With beautifully penned subplots between Wade and his father, and Sam and her nephew, this book is a complete joy to read.

I'm hoping for more Heat books in the near future, but for those of you who may have missed DOUBLE PLAY, the first book in the series, I think there's a trip to the nearest bookstore in your immediate future.

SLOW HEAT is highly recommended!
