Catriona Kincaid has longed for a place to call home ever since she was forced to move in with her Uncle after her parents’ death. Now that she is of age, she is determined to return to Scotland, restore her clan’s honor and reunite with her long lost brother. But, to do so, she needs a protector. Catriona finds him in Sir Simon Wescott, a handsome rogue with a scandalous reputation. She offers to free him from all of his debts in exchange for a sham marriage and an escort to the Highlands. For Simon, it is an offer he can’t refuse—and his one chance to become the hero of Catriona’s dreams. I was thrilled to learn that Teresa Medeiros was returning to her straight historical romance roots for this book, and couldn’t wait to get my hands on a copy. Though I tried to savor the story, I ended up devouring it in one sitting. From the first page to the last, SOME LIKE IT WICKED is an enchanting read that held me utterly captivated. Simon Wescott has made it his life’s mission to live up to everyone’s exceedingly low expectations of him. Imprisoned in Newgate for his debts, he still manages to spend his days drinking and dallying—until Catriona challenges him. She believes Simon has what it takes to be a true hero, and soon Simon realizes that he wants nothing more than to be that man for Catriona. Catriona’s passion for following her dreams is both endearing and inspiring. Believing that returning to her homeland will finally give her a place to call her own, she’s willing to risk everything to return to the Highlands—even her heart. But she has a lesson of her own to learn about the definition of home: It’s not the place we live, but the people we love. The chemistry between Simon and Catriona leaps off the page from their first meet and never lets up. There is never any doubt that these two characters are destined for each other. Their delightful bantering is extremely witty and fast-paced, but it is the poignant moments between the two that shined the brightest and made this book an absolute keeper for me. Thank you, Ms. Medeiros, for writing a book that lightened my heart and reminded me that true heroes aren’t the ones who fight the most dangerous battles but rather the ones who fight for those they love.
