Three women’s paths cross as they are each enticed to join a “dog training” class with their pooches. Upon arriving, they discover much more strange activities afoot than simple sit and stay exercises and after drinking a mixed drink at the class, each find that they can talk to animals! As their lives continue to intertwine and their “powers” grow, they begin to discover surprising lore about the “goddess” that is now attempting to control them. Are their new boyfriends part of the plot? Last year I had the delight to read The Unfortunate Miss Fortunes. In that book, Jennifer Crusie and Anne Stuart was joined by Eileen Dreyer. I was fascinated then by the craft of that book as each writer took one main character and interweaved their stories with the stories of the other two so that the novel read as a seamless entity. Now Jennifer Cruise and Anne Stuart team up with Lani Diane Rich to repeat that fascination in their new book Dogs and Goddesses. Dogs and Goddesses is a madcap romp filled with ancient lore, yummy cookies, tangled love lives, talking dogs and budding goddesses. While the plausibility factor is non-existent, the sheer fun factor makes this book worth a try.Reviewed by Crystal |
