Madeline Cartwright, a young chef trying to work her way through the journalism world to become the local Rachel Ray, is surprised upon her landlord’s death. She discovers that the dear old man was a multi-millionaire and has left her, along with his fortune, guardianship of his most prized possession... his mixed breed dog, Brutus. Tom O’Brien, a young attorney on the fast track to partnership, is determined to successfully execute his client’s unconventional will. But someone wants Brutus dead so Maddy and Tom must join forces to keep the multi-millionaire pooch from visiting that fire hydrant in the sky before he can claim his inheritance. Love is a Four-Legged Word is a charming, delightful, romantic comedy that will keep a smile on your face throughout the whole book. Maddy and Tom, while both pretty typical romance leads, manage to endear themselves to the reader through the series of humorous situations that they encounter on their quest to keep one ugly little dog safe. Brutus, however, steals the show. His personality is bigger than life, yet he is all dog in his reactions to life. I laughed till I cried over his neighborhood Romeo antics, and then cried in a totally different way when he showed us so clearly his grief over his master’s death. Bravo, Ms. Shepherd! Your debut novel should be on every romance reader’s must-read list this summer. I can’t wait to see what you publish next! Reviewed by Crystal |
