Jane Yellowrock is a part-Cherokee skinwalker and shape shifter. She is also a hired gun for the vampire council of New Orleans, contracted to kill a creature who is raising young vampires and leaving them to run rogue through the city. Jane is taking the balancing act of keeping her employer from killing her and searching for the rogue in stride.  All bets are off, however, when the evil powers strike closer to home and loved ones disappear.

Hunter returns with another action-packed, totally enthralling adventure in the exciting life of Jane Yellowrock. Picking up right where Skinwalker left off, Jane struggles with a mystifying set of clues as she and Beast work to track their target. Between almost getting killed several times, she still manages to continue to deal with her attraction to not one, but two different males. One, a blood servant to the head vampire of New Orleans whose motives are suspect, the other, an undercover cop who has his own mysteries to keep.

I loved the return of Aggie One Feather and the scenes where Aggie helps Jane discover more about her past through special Cherokee rituals. I also really enjoyed the expanded roles for Jane’s friend Molly and her precocious daughter, Angelina, both particularly favorite characters of mine from previous Jane stories.

I would not recommend reading this book without first enjoying Skinwalker as it sets up much of the action and characters for this second novel. Once you finish these first two books in the Jane Yellowrock series, you, like I, will be waiting on pins and needles for the next installment. Unfortunately, book 3, Mercy Blade, doesn’t appear to be on the slates till January 2011.
