Hank Night Horse comes to town for his best friend’s wedding. He has no intention of staying, but finds himself roped into lending a hand at the local horse rescue ranch so that his friend will leave for his honeymoon. Sally Drexler would do anything to make sure her sister leaves for her honeymoon, and putting up with handsome Hank Night Horse is no hardship at all. It might be quite the opportunity for some fringe benefits if she could play her cards right.

Did you read One Cowboy, One Christmas? If so, then you are well acquainted with Sally. While she only played a supporting role in that story, her larger than life character demanded a romance of her own, and Kathleen Eagle really delivered in Cool Hand Luke. Thanks to the previous novel, you will also know all about Sally’s health issues, and how determined she is to live the fullest life possible while her M.S. is still in remission. She hopes that includes a short romantic interlude with Hank where she can be treated as just a normal woman instead of a fragile person with a disease.

I LOVE Cool Hand Luke! It was the setting of a wild mustang rescue ranch that had me initially picking up this novel, but in the end, it was only a nice perk to the real attraction- that of the growing relationship between Hank and Sally. I loved having a main character with a condition like Multiple Sclerosis. I’d never read a romance with that issue before and really liked the depth it gave to Sally’s personality as well as Hank’s. Oh, and the fact that Hank had a totally yummy character didn’t hurt either! Don’t miss this one.  Cool Hand Luke is a very satisfying read. I only wish we could have seen how their lives progressed a little further down the road. Maybe one day we will catch a glimpse of Sally and Hank in another of Ms. Eagle’s delightful novels.
