Stephanie Bryant finally has her first corner office; a career chance of a lifetime has her moving to Cocoa Beach, FL to be the new Director of Human Resources for Space Tech. Her assignment of streamlining and reorganizing the Florida office goes off schedule almost immediately due to Hurricane Arlene. Officer Brett Lincoln makes sure that Stephanie reluctantly evacuates, and the early spark of attraction between them increases as their paths continue to cross. But Brett doesn’t want another “me, me” girlfriend and Stephanie knows that her job challenges need all her attention if she is to succeed. So ignoring the way his kisses make her toes curl shouldn’t be a big deal. Right? The Officer’s Girl is a heartwarming novel by debut author Leigh Duncan. Duncan, who’s long-term dream was being published by Harlequin, gives us a glimpse into the lives of very believable characters who are trying each day to work through the challenges and monkey wrenches that come their way. I really enjoyed the attention to the emotional development of both Brett and Stephanie, as well as the way that each event had consequences that moved the plot in certain directions. The secondary characters of the twin girls was brilliant, allowing us to see a softer side of the two protagonists. Readers who enjoy gentle romances will appreciate this novel. Excellent first effort, Ms. Duncan! I’m looking forward to your next Harlequin American Romance, Catch of a Lifetime which is scheduled for early 2011.Reviewed by Crystal |
