Remy Chandler is a private detective in Boston. He is also an angel, though he chooses to suppress his angelic powers within his very human body. In his third outing, Remy is hired by a distraught mother whose young daughter has been kidnapped by her father. The girl draws the future and has hidden power that not even she understands and multiple antagonists are also searching for her. Can Remy find her before good is corrupted by evil?

Where Angels Fear to Tread  is the latest adventure in the Remy Chandler series. While an exciting glimpse into the daily life of Remy as he strives to fight the evil powers that seem to keep crossing his path, I did not feel that the novel advanced the overall rumblings and unrest of the world that we were left with at the end of Dancing on the Head of a Pin. Whether or not any of the characters from this novel will continue to play a role in Remy’s life is not clear, though Samson was an intriguing character that I would enjoy seeing again.

The writing remains tight with page-turning suspense as Remy fights against time and evil to save a child... and, perhaps, the world. One small caveat must be mentioned: the evil characters are painted with a vivid, dark brush that some gentle readers may find disturbing. For me, the quality and excitement of the story exceeded any moments where I might have wished to “close my eyes till it was over.” As with the other Remy Chandler novels, I loved Where Angels Fear to Tread and look forward eagerly to the next installment in Remy’s world.
