Wild Instinct follows three intertwined stories about three different male werewolves with the Haven pack and the women they are attempting to save.  Along with way, they discover that the women also happen to be their destined mates, much to the surprise of all involved.

I have not read any of Sarah McCarty’s other werewolf stories, but it was clear from the various couples that were a part of this anthology that there have been several other romances within the Haven Pack.  Nevertheless, not knowing the complete back stories of the other couples did not detract from the enjoyment of Wild Instinct.

Garrett, Daire and Curran are all very different individuals, but all likeable in their own way as they struggle to reconcile their were side with the very different personalities of the women they meet, each of whom has their own special gift. The action kept the pages turning and I particularly enjoyed the depth of character and romance development between the werewolves and their mates.  This aspect is often missing in more erotic fiction. Ms. McCarty has a real skill of including steamy love scenes within the context of the complex story so that they are a natural outgrowth of the action. I also really loved how the separate stories of the men were so closely entwined that it read like a single novel.

I can recommend Wild Instinct without hesitation as an enjoyable novel. One caveat. While the stories of the three new couples each reach a satisfying conclusion, there are rumblings of happenings with the pack and with the characters of this novel that are only hinted at and leaves the reader at somewhat of a cliff hanger about what will happen with the challenges yet to come.
