Pollyanna McDonald, her eight year old son, Gil, and their assorted menagerie of pets have moved to Mule Hollow. Polly, widowed for two years, has decided to convert a Victorian home into a bed and breakfast and use this business to support herself and her son. Her closest neighbor is Nate Talbert, a widower of three years. Both Pollyanna and Nate are still grieving their lost spouses and having trouble moving on, but Gil and Nate click immediately. The Mule Hollow matchmakers have their eye on this latest matchmaking target and are determined to help both Nate and Pollyanna find happiness again, this time with each other. This latest entry in the Mule Hollow series may be my very favorite yet! For those who have not yet visited there, Mule Hollow is a small Texas town that before Lacy Brown (first book in series) descended, was overrun with way too many single cowboys and no women. But now the resident matchmakers have been campaigning and bringing in women to marry up these eager men. In this novel neither Polly nor Nate are interested in finding a new love. Both are still hurting too much from their own losses. I really loved the depth of emotion in this story and thought the sharing between Polly and Nate about the way each was dealing with loss was powerful. It was so very beautiful to see each share something they think no one else would ever understand, only to discover that the other had experienced something very much like that. It was also refreshing to have a romance where both the characters had wonderful past marriages; watching Polly and Nate reconcile their continuing love for their deceased spouses, yet learning how to embrace the new love that God gifted them in the other person, was very inspiring and uplifting. Even if you have never read a Mule Hollow book, give this one a try. It is a great stand alone read. Reviewed by Crystal |
