Kaycee Morgan raises AKC Confirmation Champion golden retrievers and has created quite a name for herself and her kennel in dog show circles.  On the way to her latest show while pulling a trailer full of goldens, her vehicle’s brakes fail. With a winding treacherous pass before her, Kaycee struggles to avoid killing any other motorists as well as herself and her precious cargo. Once she discovers that the brake lines had been cut, Kaycee realizes that the other troublesome events of the past several weeks are adding up to a sinister plot with her as the target.

Although Kaycee tries to downplay her recent trouble, her father secretly hires Blake Corbin to protect his daughter and unravel the mystery surrounding her “accidents”.  Blake, a principal partner in an investigative firm that specializes in unraveling white collar technology crimes, agrees as a favor to a friend of his father, but he never expected the immediate and intense attraction he would feel for Kaycee. How can he keep her alive long enough to tell her who he really is and to convince her that they are meant to be something special?

The opening cut brake line sequence sets the suspenseful, fast pace of this wonderful novel by Kelsy George. I couldn’t put this book down, and George truly kept me guessing on who was responsible for everything that was happening by introducing several characters that all might have had a reason or the opportunity to commit the crimes. The portrayal of the dog show world was very realistic and will prove to be enjoyable to any animal lover.

Kaycee is a likable character who has created her own dog breeder fame through hard work and careful scientific study of her dogs’ ancestry as she strives to produce award winning golden retrievers who are ever closer to confirmation perfection.  Her determination to handle the threats against her alone is a little reckless, and her unwillingness to forgive Blake for his deception reveals a less than attractive pigheadedness to an otherwise very nice person.

Blake is a caring, resourceful man who is clearly thrown totally upside down by this unexpected attraction to the woman he is supposed to be protecting. The bedroom scenes where they finally come together sizzle delightfully and show such a soft, caring side to this strong, capable man.  I really liked David and Jared, Blake’s partners, and can see the setup of possible sequels for each of these yummy single guys.  Please, please, please Ms. George!  We have to get to see their HEA endings also!  Come to think of it, I’d really enjoy more of Hooch and Annie as well!!!  I’ll be waiting impatiently for more books by Ms. George. Don’t miss it!
