Being alone at a seaside inn for a murder mystery weekend wasn’t Emily Summerville’s idea.  No, she reluctantly agreed to the weekend away with her best friend, who cancelled last minute.  But the mystery looks interesting, and the seaside view gets better with every minute when she meets Trent Owens!

Also alone for the weekend, Trent loses no time introducing himself to the lovely Emily, and claiming her attentions for the weekend.  When it becomes clear that he is developing long-term feelings for Emily, Trent knows he must come clean with her.  Can their budding relationship survive the secrets Trent is hiding from Emily?

Samantha Gentry’s book, Deadly Encounter is a lovely little romance.  While the story doesn’t necessarily throw the reader any new ideas, the execution of a time proven theme is well-done.

The author proves her mettle once again with character development with her creation of Emily and Trent.  Although a short story with only thirty-four pages, the reader is immediately drawn to both characters, and understands there motivations, their fears, and their desires very early in the story.

The murder mystery weekend is a nice back drop, although there were tidbits concerning the murder mystery laid throughout the story that left me believing more would come before the story ended, and yet there was no finish to this part of the story.  While the resolution of the story was not dependent on this, the lack of closure in this area left me feeling slightly unsatisfied.

Despite that, Deadly Encounter was a good read, and I would recommend it – especially if you are already a fan of Samantha Gentry’s work, as I am.
