Gabrielle Sansouci has spent years denying her destiny. She’s on the brink of success with her career as an artist when a package arrives for her. Inside the package is an ancient scroll… and Gabrielle knows she’d only receive that scroll if her estranged father, Wu, is dead. Now, she’s going to have to learn to handle her newly acquired power, finish her paintings for the upcoming art show, and deal with her father’s ghostly appearance. Never mind the appearance of the mesmerizing Rhys who she wants to trust… but can she? Gabrielle’s plight is easy to understand. She’s torn between her past and her present as both are colliding. Her angst over Jesse and their friendship is heartbreakingly vivid while the passion that flares up with Rhys is steamy. Kate Perry does a marvelous job at drawing the reader into Gabrielle’s mindset as her emotions are vividly portrayed. MARKED BY PASSION is an interesting start to this series featuring the Guardians of Destiny. Admittedly, I’m hoping Kate Perry digs a bit more into the lore behind the Guardians or the series will quickly wear thin. As a first novel in a series, however, the storyline introduces the characters quite well. Reviewed by Debbie |
