Sometimes opposites attract….

Erica Johnson is a black teacher in the D.C. school system and totally against any type of violence, from war to eating meat. Mark Newman is a white senator from a rural southern state and an injured veteran who supports the war. They couldn’t be more different. Will the spark igniting between them survive their political differences? An anonymous messenger isn’t happy about their budding relationship….

Wow! Karyn Langhorne captures the essence of the political differences between Erica and Mark and uses these differences to great effect. Karyn Langhorn could have easily made this a novel promoting one ideology or another but instead she shows the commonality between us all, no matter what end of the political spectrum. The romantic spark between Erica and Mark reaches past those obvious differences to underscore the similarities as well as the beauty of political discourse.

Character development is critical to the success of UNFINISHED BUSINESS. Angelique and Chase are phenomenal secondary characters as they allow us to see the heart of Erica and Mark without getting caught up in stereotyping. My only criticism would be that some of the villains are a bit one-dimensional, particularly in comparison to the depth of the other characters.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS is a stunning book, both in its intensity and in the overall message it portrays. This is the first book I’ve read by Karyn Langhorne but I’ll certainly be looking out for more of her books after finishing this one. Highly recommended!
