The Black Sheep is a cozy knitting store… until murder strikes nearby! Maggie Messina, the owner, is targeted by the police while her friends and fellow knitters, Lucy Binger, Dana Haeger, Suzanne Cavanaugh, and Phoebe Meyer are determined to support her in any way possible. Will the real murderer be found in time to save Maggie’s reputation in a town as small as Plum Harbor? WHILE MY PRETTY ONE KNITS is the first in a series featuring a very eclectic group of friends. Anne Canadeo does a great job at showing the bond that knitting has formed among the friends. The atmosphere of the tale, despite featuring a murder, is a very cozy one as the details are not graphic. Instead, it is the relationships that are key to the story and to the success of the mystery. Readers looking for a hardcore whodunit may be a bit disappointed as the mystery itself is somewhat simplistic. However, the mystery isn’t the heart of the story. Instead, the diverse group of friends and their heartwarming camaraderie is what makes WHILE MY PRETTY ONE KNITS an enjoyable read. In addition, the various notes at the end, including a recipe and instructions for projects mentioned during the book, adds a nice touch to the overall ambiance of the storyline. It will be interesting to see how Anne Canadeo handles the future adventures of the Black Sheep knitting circle. Reviewed by Debbie |
