DEAD DONE RIGHT contains two interconnected stories, Waking Up DEAD and DEAD Faint. In Waking Up DEAD, Deb Stein has been enjoying the socialite party lifestyle when a one night fling changes everything. Aaron Lowell is a vampire and he has inadvertently made her his changeling. Worse yet, he leaves the initial orientation in the hands of his mentor, Daniel Phillips. Will Deb survive her transformation to Dovey Divine? In DEAD Faint, Billie Joyce Nolan gets a second chance at life after she is killed in a botched attack. Dovey swoops in and saves her, creating her first changeling in the process. There’s just one teeny little problem… Billie Joyce drops into a DEAD Faint at the sight of blood! Dovey leaves the training to Daniel, who instantly clashes with Billie Joyce. How will Billie Joyce handle her new life as a vampire? Lizzie T. Leaf has a real gift at creating realistic characters. Even her secondary characters spring to vivid life! The intertwining of the two stories adds strength to the storylines and the various personalities as we get better insight into their motivations. Dovey’s transformation from wealthy socialite to stripper is surprisingly touching, especially as she befriends Rat. Lizzie T. Leaf shows readers a softer side, both of the profession as a whole and of the wild socialite Dovey once was. Billie Joyce (later nicknamed BJ), on the other hand, is tough despite her fainting spells and drawling speech. Both women share a desire to tackle life on their own terms and Lizzie T. Leaf does a marvelous job at showing readers the inner core of strength that each woman possesses while ensuring they are likable. Part of the fun of any book by Lizzie T. Leaf is the humorous approach she takes to things. The eccentricity of the characters adds a lighthearted approach, particularly as the events of the second book unfold. DEAD DONE RIGHT is an entertaining book and easily recommended! Reviewed by Debbie |
