FBI agent Sydney Fitzpatrick wants nothing more than to get on a plane and head home to visit her family for Thanksgiving. Special Agent Zachary Griffin has another plan for Sydney, however. He needs a body identified and Sydney is the ideal forensic artist to do so. Things rapidly go awry, however, and soon Sydney is embroiled in a mystery that stretches from current government conspiracy theories all the way back to the Templars.

THE BONE CHAMBER is the second book in a series featuring forensic artist Sydney Fitzpatrick. It is easily read as a stand alone as we are given background history on Sydney from the first novel. Unfortunately, this is the sum total of character development for Sydney or any of the other characters. I generally like characters like Sydney but her continued involvement seems almost at odds with her own personality as well as what a black ops group would allow.

A plethora of characters jump in and out of the storyline with little explanation or context as to how or why they are a part of the story. The conspiracy theories are interesting and yet the believability is stretched quite a bit. Perhaps if we had gotten to know the other characters more, it would have helped make some of the connections a tad more believable. A good conspiracy theory plot doesn’t necessarily have to be truly realistic, but it helps if the reader is drawn into the storyline and cares about the ending. Unfortunately, it was hard to care when there were characters and plot lines randomly popping all over the place. A little more cohesiveness could have made THE BONE CHAMBER spectacular. Instead, it was just okay.
