Rene Morin and Tessa Davenant have led very different lives. While both are vampires, Rene had a human mother and was raised to live as a human. Tessa, on the other hand, grew up in the sheltered Brethren world, secluded from the rest of the world. The two are thrown together to protect Tessa’s brother, Brandon Noble (see DARK THIRST for more details), from the Elders of the Brethren. Fleeing across the country, will they give in to the attraction between them or will the darkness claim them both?

Wow! Sara Reinke’s sequel to DARK THIRST is a stunner! DARK HUNGER picks up right where the first book left off and instantly delves into the dark world of the vampire. I would highly suggest reading DARK THIRST first, however, as the storylines intertwine with an ongoing story arc. One word of caution to readers who want their stories wrapped up neatly: DARK HUNGER leaves with one heck of a cliffhanger! I can only hope that Sara Reinke’s next book is coming out soon so I can find out what happens next as the wait is killing me!

Rene is a dark, brooding hero. His actions aren’t always “right” and he can be cantankerous at times. But as his history unfolds, it is hard not to fall in love with this Alpha male! His tenderness towards Tessa as her secrets are revealed is touching, even endearing. Tessa’s inner strength is also admirable and I cannot praise Sara Reinke enough for addressing such tough issues with her characters. Both Rene and Tessa have obstacles in their lives and Ms Reinke addresses these issues with great sensitivity and realism.

DARK HUNGER is easily a keeper on my shelves! Sara Reinke adds a much needed touch of darkness to the genre as the story borders on dark fantasy. Fans looking for a story they can truly sink their teeth (pun intended) into will thoroughly enjoy DARK HUNGER. Highly recommended!
