Princess Lumina and Prince Pyroth are betrothed, promised to one another to unite the warring Fire and Ice kingdoms. Happily, they fall deeply in love with one another, and eagerly await their upcoming nuptials.

Their happiness is shattered, however, on the eve of their wedding. Betrayed by those they trust, their families are murdered, Pyroth barely escapes with his life, and Princess Lumina is kidnapped, with her memories of Pyroth stolen and secretly held in the Water Kingdom to be wed to their Prince.

Bereft of both his family and beloved, Pyroth carries on for the sake of his people, living day to day without hope or love. When he finds he isn’t invited to the surprise wedding of the Prince of Water to an unknown bride, he determines to find out what the Water Kingdom is hiding that is so important they risk war with his kingdom over such a slight.

Fire and ice usually don’t mix, but in Fire and Ice by Vivienne King, the combination proves downright steamy! King jumps into the story with both feet from the beginning, immersing us in her tale so quickly the reader forgets they have only read a few pages thus far! With only 49 pages, the story moves rapidly, but one never feels left behind, or that they are missing any important details for the story, even though the story spans two years.

Fire and Ice is not your typical fairy tale. It is instead, a decidedly adult fairy tale, with intensely hot love scenes, and some violence (non-sexual). Still, Vivienne King provides the happy ever after one hopes for with a fairy tale of any kind, even if Prince Pyroth and Princess Lumina do not react the way your standard fairy tale characters might.

With the conclusion of Fire and Ice, we are left hoping for sequels to the tale, starring the Kings of the Water and Air kingdoms.  I look forward to more of this author’s work!
