Big,
strong, hulking Viking shape shifters don’t end up with short, nerdy,
smart-mouthed women like Miki. At least, that’s what she tells herself when
she meets Conall. Nothing in her experience has prepared her for him, but
she is certain that his interest in her is a passing fancy and he’d be best
paired with a docile little submissive with more boobs than brains.
Conall has other ideas, though. He never thought he would meet a female
with whom he could let his wolf go completely, much less a human
woman. But Miki brings out every primal instinct Conall shares with his
wolf, and he knows from day one that he will make her his mate, even if it
is the last thing he ever does. And with a mean little gun-toting sprite
like Miki, it’s a good bet that it just might be the last thing he does!
No
one, but no one, writes a cantankerous heroine like Shelly Laurenston, and
that is just one of the many reasons I love her work! Her characters, her
stories, and her wit are all a little off kilter, guaranteed to gratify
those who enjoy stories with a different bent to them. The one thing you
can always expect from one of this author’s stories is that she will always
give you something you did not expect.
Go Fetch fits this description just as well as her other books
do. This book is part of the Shape Shifter world she creates in her books
Pack Challenge and Here Kitty, Kitty, and we
enjoy the main characters from each book in supporting roles in the other
books. To be perfectly frank, until I began reading Go Fetch
and recognized some of the character names and references to the supporting
characters’ stories, I did not suspect these were connected books. I read
Here Kitty, Kitty, which I believe is the last in the trilogy,
first and it worked very well as a standalone story, as does Go Fetch.
Having enjoyed both of these stories immensely, I have moved the first story
to the top of my TBR pile!
Miki should not be likable, but she is. She is abrasive, abrupt, and just
plain mean. Conversely, she is never mean-spirited. She takes no guff from
anyone, and is as fierce as a mother wolf protecting her cubs when someone
she cares about is threatened. Her loyalty and vulnerability serve well to
endear Miki to the reader from the very first chapter. Her quirkiness
probably helps quite a bit too!
Watching Conall try and learn how to woo the inimitable Miki is a veritable
delight. She confounds and draws him like no other woman, and keeps him
chasing his tail (in a manner of speaking) from beginning to end. He is
single-minded in his objective to win her as his mate, and pulls out all the
stops to make that happen, while simultaneously trying to protect her from
the mysterious threat that has cropped up.
Go Fetch is all at once hysterically funny, blazing hot, and
wonderfully spell-binding. Anyone who loves a great Shape Shifter romance
that is just a little bit askew in its approach to romance (in a very good
way) should pick up a copy of this gem immediately! And then go subscribe
to Shelly Laurenston’s newsletter ASAP. Laurenston publishes a new chapter
of a free story which is connected to these each month in her newsletter,
archiving each month’s chapter in PDF form in her Yahoo Group.
