Having lived the BDSM lifestyle with her husband, widowed Heather Gilpatrick
has searched for a new Dom to fill the void her husband left with his
death. Her latest attempt ended more than badly, leaving Heather abused,
hospitalized, and resolves that she will never again trust any man enough to
submit to him.
Detective Paul Baxter can’t help but feel protective when he meets the
beautiful Heather while investigating her case. She refuses to give
details, claiming it was a random attack in a dark alley. But he knows a
cover when he sees it, and recognizes her as a submissive. He deduces,
without her telling him, that she has suffered a beating at the hands of a
vicious Master.
Only the Master turns out to be more than just a sadist – he is a sexual
predator, and unused to being thwarted. The serial rapist and kidnapper has
set his sights on finishing what he started with Heather, and Paul is
equally determined to protect her.
Paul moves in with Heather temporarily, acting as her bodyguard. Close
proximity makes it impossible for them to ignore their budding feelings for
each other. But can Heather overcome her fears and be the submissive that
Paul needs?
The Incognito
series keeps getting better and better. At a point when some series
may start to become stale, Madison Layle and Anna Leigh Keaton keep finding
ways to keep this exciting saga fresh. Incognito: Healing Heather
picks up right where the previous story, Incognito: Winning Angela
leaves off, finding the battered submissive from the end of that story,
Heather, in the hospital with her many wounds being tended to.
Paul identifies Heather as a submissive by her demeanor and confirms his
suspicion when he notices the symbol she wears as a pendant. Already
feeling protective of her, this recognition of her nature brings the
Dominant in him to the forefront, and ignites feelings he never expected.
He is as relentless as one would expect any Dom to be, but he tempers that
relentlessness with infinite patience and gentleness where Heather is
concerned, in deference to her delicate state of mind and raw emotions.
Over and over he proves himself worthy of the trust so important in a
healthy BDSM relationship, earning Heather’s love.
Heather is heartbreaking. With memories of the great love she and her late
husband shared, she searches for someone who can give her the same feelings
of security and completeness she had with him, topped off with a healthy
dose of passion. Her search ends fruitlessly again and again. She finally
meets the one man who can give her what she most needs, but only after the
part of her that can trust implicitly has been broken, possibly
irrevocably. Watching Heather try and overcome her fears to shape a future
with Paul is inspiring, but will most certainly run even the most hardened
reader through the wringer. I defy anyone to not be moved by this love
story.
