Picture an apocalyptic world where the sun is so fiery it kills and technology is only a treasure hunter’s dream.  This is the world in which Katarina, called Kat or Hell Kat, resides.  Accompanied by her trusty partner, Damian, Kat ventures into deserted areas searching for technology such as a Walkman.  The Monolith, however, is considered the ultimate treasure and is located in the mysterious and dangerous Vanquished City.

Kat decides she has to obtain the Monolith when she hears that her nemesis, Hades, is seeking it.  However, Kat and Hades reluctantly team up and hire a guide, Darquiel.  But Darquiel has a dark secret that may destroy them all. 

HELL KAT is a fabulous science fiction thriller heavily laced with erotica.  Kat is a strong, determined woman and the force of her personality would overwhelm most men- but luckily Hades isn’t “most men”!  Some readers will be offended by Kat’s change in sexual partners as well as several of the rather kinky scenes.  There are a few brief female/female scenes that may offend some readers.  Overall, however, the sex scenes are appropriate in the context of the novel.

Despite the rather cartoonish cover, HELL KAT is not a cheesy erotica novel but is instead a well-written, steamy science fiction thriller guaranteed to keep readers turning the pages well into the night.  The evolution of the vampires wasn’t fully explained but Vivi Anna did such an excellent job at the pacing of the story that this detail is easily overlooked.  The post-apocalyptic world she has created is a scary one but one the reader will want to revisit in later tales.  It is almost impossible to believe that HELL KAT is Vivi Anna’s first published novel as it is a winner!
