Lady Karee Wilmore has always had one dream. She longs to be a dragon’s mate, flying through the air with him and being treasured for the woman she is. On the eve of her wedding to Prince Marcus she is about to give up all her dreams for a man she does not love and who does not love her. Could it be she will finally fulfill her dream of becoming the Dragon’s Mate to a fascinating air dragon? Dragon’s Mate was a delightful short fantasy romance that whet my appetite for more books by Beth Caudill. We have a sweet story about dreamer Karee who longs for the freedom a life as a dragon’s mate would give her, yet is smart enough to know sometimes dreams don’t come true and therefore you must do what is best for everyone. She is resigned to doing her duty and marry, yet she feels sympathetic for her betrothed, knowing he’s not exactly thrilled about a marriage of convenience and status. Bavol is an intriguing man and upon my first introduction to him, I knew there was something otherworldly about him. So I was happy to find I was right when I discovered he was special. He is a powerful man, full of strength and valor, who knows what he wants and makes no bones about taking it. He needs a spirited partner and decisive Karee is perfect for him. While Dragon’s Mate is too short to go into much detail about the worlds Karee and Bavol live in, I was fascinated by the glimpses I received. The different kinds of dragons and they types of treasures they protect are refreshing and unique. I’d love a longer foray into this world Beth Caudill has created where she can delve deep into world-building. © Kelley A. Hartsell, April 2009. All rights reserved. |
