Callie is in Croatia on vacation, and hopes to do a little caving while she is there. While out on one of her exploratory sessions with the son of her host family, Callie comes across a hidden cave with an amazing dragon design on the wall. She also finds a stange tablet on this expedition. One touch of her hands on the tablet and she has unwittingly released The Dragon of Croatia from his hibernation.

Every 100 years, the dragon is freed to protect the island and all its inhabitants from those who would destroy their heritage. Gavriel has been awoken and now he must stop smugglers before they make off with the most prized artifacts of the island. He is drawn to the woman who freed him and suddenly finds himself wondering if there is a way to stay with her. But Callie is not what she seems and has a hidden agenda of her own.

Callie is an adventurous woman, full of charm and spirit. She is a perfect match for a powerful dragon whose mission in his very long life is to protect his home and his people from enemies without and within. I was quite surprised at the secrets revealed about her true reason of being in Croatia and who she really is.

Gavriel is a force to be reckoned with once revealed from his sanctuary. He is all alpha, a man whose presence alone will make enemies quake in their boots. Full of potent sensual energy, there is no resisting him once he makes his desires known. I was quite taken with Gavriel, fully understanding Callie’s impressions of him, from the moment of his first appearance.

The action is well done in The Dragon of Croatia, making me anxious to see what was to come. The intrigue is enhanced by the mysteries surrounding so many of the people on this island as we wonder who they really are and what they are seeking.

Valerie Everhart manages to pack quite a bit of excitement, adventure, and romance into a novella length book with The Dragon of Croatia. There are multiple twists and shockers to be uncovered as well. I have never read a story by this author before but I will have to keep my eyes open for more.
