Jaden Quantrill and her mate Raphael Estes are out enjoying a romp in the jungles of Mexico at a local Mayan ruin when their adventure is interrupted. Raphael has been shot by a group of hunters and now it is up to Jaden to protect her mate. Now the hunters have become The Hunted when Jaden’s jaguar instincts come roaring to the surface. The Hunted is most definitely a highly charged, fast paced adventure. From the opening lines when we meet Jaden and Raphael engaged in a passionate encounter in the jungle, we know we’re in for a wild ride. Events start unfolding immediately with the interruption by poachers shooting Raphael. Jaden wants revenge for the injury to her mate so when she turns the tables on the hunters, danger follows. I enjoyed hurtling through the jungle at breathtaking speed as we run alongside of Jaden tracking her prey. Passion between Jaden and Raphael is hot and heavy, showing us with action as well as words that these two are destined mates. However, I was a little bit lost, feeling like something was missing. The Hunted reads more like a sequel than a stand alone short story. References are implied as to Jaden’s heritage and how she ended up in the Mayan jungle, but we have no idea what that entailed to bring her there. I even went searching the publisher’s website to see if there was another story I missed, but I couldn’t find anything. So that left me disappointed and somewhat confused as to events that conspired to bring Jaden and Raphael to where there are now. If the story of Jaden isn’t already out there somewhere and I just couldn’t find it, I’d love if Donna Michaels would write the story one of these days since it felt like there was a lot to how Jaden discovered her shape shifter heritage and found her way to her mate Raphael. © Kelley A.
