Life was complicated enough when psychologist Kate Holly received an eviction notice giving her to the end of the month to find new digs for her office.  Hey, it wasn’t her fault one of her patients threw a vial of nitroglycerine and almost blew up the building!  Unfortunately, she’s also trying to salvage her marriage with her firefighter ex-husband, and her best option for new digs just happens to be sharing office space with her ex-boyfriend, Dr. Thad Glazer.  Now toss in a mystery arsonist targeting firemen;  a group of oddball and colorful patients; her eccentric mother; along with a wacky best-friend receptionist and it’s going to be a real toss-up as to who really needs the padded cell!

**** Wacky is a keyword here, as well as laugh out loud funny in this highly enjoyable fun read with a wee bit of a mystery tossed in for good measure! This was both a first time experience with both the character, Kate Holly, and the author Charlotte Hughes. The book description enticed me to pick up this when I was looking for some light reading to relax with and I found it to be a perfect light and fluffy read. The bonuses that came with it was of having some extremely snappy dialog,  fast-moving action, and each character was well fleshed with great background and strong motivations.  Kate is a super strong, albeit a bit of a nutcase herself, heroine and the author’s portrayal of her relationship with ex-husband Jay the firefighter is both sweet and touching.  Kate’s friend/receptionist Mona was a hoot, as were the majority of her patients.

One of the best things I found was the author’s blend of whipping up together, the romance, the arson mystery, and comedic elements so smoothly and seamlessly.  However, I would have liked to have had it go on a bit longer for many of the characters wormed their way into my heart and I hated to see the story end so soon.  Alas I feel that Ms. Hughes has it in her mind to add a few more new patients for Ms. Kate Holly, in future books and personally, I can’t wait to meet them.

Bottom Line: You won’t be disappointed in NUTCASE when looking for a fun read! It’s the perfect pick-me-up after a hard day’s work or a day at the beach!
