Evelyn Waye has lost all possible hope for life now that she is being forced to marry the depraved prince whom she knows killed his wife – her beloved sister.  With no way out, she feels no other choice than to throw herself off a cliff into the raging ocean below.

Adam Westmore has spent the last six years living next to the sea brooding over the loss of his adored wife who drowned in a shipwreck off the coast.  Seeing a young woman throw herself off the cliff, Adam jumps in to rescue her, refusing to let the sea claim another victim and he brings her to his cottage.  Feeling her beauty has been a curse and highly suspicious of all men Evelyn wants to believe Adam’s promise to protect her, but her experience of men’s betrayal has caused deep scars.  Evelyn is definitely in a precarious position, not only from the evil prince who wants revenge, but also from the dangerous desire that begins to flourish between her and Adam.

*** Having read other books by this newer author I was most anxious to pick up her latest and found it to be as dramatically exciting as her others, and every bit as hard to put down!  With a fast and furious pace, an enticing opening and a marvelous voice Ms. Benedict grabbed me from the very beginning and simply wouldn’t let me go.  There was something here that was familiar and I soon realized that it was a sequel to TOO GREAT A TEMPTATION (October 2006).  Now almost two years between books is a long time to wait, but once I made the connection it all came rushing back to me, primarily because TGAT was such a consuming and memorable read! This is remarkable in itself when one considers that as a reviewer a lot of books are read in two years time.

Just as in TGAT Benedict fashioned her characters with great depth and motivation.  What could have possibly motivated a young beautiful woman such as Evelyn to throw herself off a cliff?  Benedict’s descriptive phrasing and imagery was able to instill in this reader’s mind the depth of desperation and fear that motivated Evelyn, just as easily as she allowed you to see the trust, faith and sensual awareness build between Evelyn and Adam.

Adam was a tortured soul who’s agony over not being able to save his beloved wife had consumed him; that and his hatred of the men whom he blamed for the events leading up to her death.  Feeling that it was his duty to save and protect Evelyn, even from herself was the first step in his healing process, especially when he was obligated to seek help from the brother he had once tried to kill.  The bristling undercurrents of love and hate between brothers were brilliantly interwoven into an unforgettable and emotionally charged blend.

With brilliant leads Benedict also serves up a delectable dish of secondary characters including a cast of detestable villains; lost family members and a feisty crew of pirates-in-law, making her latest entrée one of the most exciting adventures I’ve read this summer.  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Benedict is a rising star of the historical romance genre and TOO DANGEROUS TO DESIRE is a highly recommended read!
