When Carly purchased the remote farm house in Wyoming, the real estate agent never warned her she would be sharing the house – with a devastatingly handsome, centuries-old Master Vampire, no less! She moved her home-based computer programming business to Wyoming in order to find solitude, peace and quiet. Dimitri Belakov has lived underneath the old farm house for centuries, enjoying long-term pacts with the family who used to own the land that ensured a mutually satisfactory living arrangement. When the family line dies out and the house is sold to a stranger, he must forge a similar agreement with the new tenant, or kill her. He never expected to find himself drawn irresistibly to her – almost as if she might be his ‘One’… Phantom Desires is the third book in Bianca D’Arc’s Tales of the Vampire saga, which gets even better with every release. Each book reveals a little more about the intricacies of the world D’Arc’s vampires live in, while delivering a spicy and sweet romance each time! If D’Arc’s vampire series were a candy, it would definitely be Red Hots!!! The author introduces a heroine near and dear to my heart in the form of Carly. In a genre that typically uses heroines who are schoolteachers, heiresses, or lawyers, D’Arc warms the cockles of this nerdy girl’s heart by creating a leading lady who works as a computer programmer! The author includes just enough detail concerning Carly’s job to make it clear what she does for a living, but not so much that it would bore the reader who may not be as into technology as a geek like me (lol)… Indeed, Carly’s personality even fits her IT career, being self-sufficient, focused, and occasionally oblivious to what is happening around her. These traits serve beautifully to unsettle Dimitri, who is unused to being a part of the scenery rather than the focal point! Of course, it is only a matter of time before he seduces his way through her defenses, demanding her attention and easily holding it, to the delight of both Carly and the reader… While the stories are greatly enhanced if you read the first three books in the Vampire Tales in order, they also work well as standalone stories. I do strongly recommend that each of the first three be read before progressing to the next in the series, however, as the stories begin to coalesce more in the fourth book, revealing how seemingly random tidbits in the first three stories have a greater significance in the overall story.
