This is the true life account of Terri Irwin’s life with Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter, from the day she met him, through his death, with a short follow-up chapter on events since his death. This is a departure from the usual type of book we review here at Kwips. But it is, first and foremost, one of the most beautiful love stories that I have read in a long time. Terri first met Steve at his small Australian zoo in October of 1991, and this book takes us on a journey with Terri and Steve, though their love story, their wildlife conservation work, the birth of their children, the growth of Steve’s media work as the Crocodile Hunter, until finally, his tragic, premature death. One would expect a story that you know from the start will end in the death of the hero to be a depressing read, but Irwin infuses every page with her love for this bigger than life hero, and Steve’s enthusiasm and quest for wildlife conservation lives on through the efforts of Terri, her children and all the “mates” who loved Steve. There is a small section of photographs, as well as the large face close-ups of Terri and Steve on the cover and every shot shows Steve’s enormous heart and boundless passion for life. If you have any interest in animals or Steve Irwin, this book should be a keeper on your shelves. Reviewed by Crystal |
