Five years ago Elvi Black was encouraged to take a vacation to Mexico. Elvi came back with more than the requisite souvenirs – Elvi came back as a vampire. Sleeping in a coffin and not eating food was a real downer for a woman who loved to cook AND eat.  On the plus side, as life altering as this was for Elvi, the reality of being 62 and looking like a gorgeous 25 year old was GREAT.  Unfortunately, Elvie’s lifelong friends were aging and would ultimately die. Because Elvie was so loved, her good friends decided to place an ad for, and interview potential vampire suitors without her knowledge.

As the Argeneau family enforcer of the immortal realm laws, Victor Argeneau was sent to discover if this advertisement were a joke, or bring what must be a rogue vampire to justice for being stupid enough to advertise their existance. Victor was dismayed that Elvi was so naïve as to not know how many rules she had broken, unfortunately he was also extremely attracted and wanted very much to teach her – everything he knew.  Unfortunately, as much as she needed to learn Victor would have his hands full keeping Elvi alive after several attempts were made to end her vamp existence.

*** What a concept!  I’ve read vampire tales before and it amazes me to see how each author has interpreted their visions of how a vampire lives, how they were turned and what they can and cannot do.  Turning young again – oh my – where do we line up to get bit!! Lynsay Sands in her own unique, creative way has given her wonderful version of vamp life and its origins and she’s done a smashing job!   No matter what genre this author writes in she always create instances where I’m laughing out loud with tears running down my face!   I’m so angry at myself for taking so long to pull this favorite author of mine off my TBR shelf to be introduced to the Argeneau family!

Victor is second oldest of the Argeneau family. After Victor had lost his lifemate centuries before he’d lived alone, brooding, until he was pulled back into the family enterprise by agreeing to be the enforcer of their immortal (they didn’t like being referred to as vampire’s) rules.  As Sands built her world she took care to explain how not every immortal was fortunate enough to find a lifemate (another immortal who could not read or manipulate another’s thoughts) let alone two.  Victor had lost his, and it was HIGHLY unlikely for him to have found another.  Yet, if Victor reported back to the council how many rules Elvi had inadvertently broken, he’d have to kill her!

Sands’ characters, whether leading or secondary, are always fascinating and provide a great deal of humor and substance to the story especially the other hot immortals Edward, Harper, and Allesandro who were so funny as they were vying for Elvi’s hand.  Especially DJ who came only to keep Victor company and found a lifemate of his own along with Elvi’s best friends, Mabel and Teddy Brunswick, who’s secret plans to play matchmakers brought Victor into Elvi’s life.

As book #7 in the Argeneau family series I can honestly say it’s a stand-alone, and you can be sure I’ll find the previous books in this series ASAP. Sands is a  fabulous author who writes the most engaging stories along with the most endearing characters.  All of her books are firmly seated on my keeper shelf!  If you’ve never read Sands before, do yourself a favor and experience the Argeneau world Ms. Sands has created – I guarantee you’ll be happy you did.
