Mackenzie McKade’s novel Ecstasy Book 2: The Charade reintroduces us to the three Thorenson brothers we met in the first book: Shawn, Terrance and Tor. Having seen Shawn’s wish for a love of his own in The Game, fans of McKade’s Ecstasy series will be delighted to find him stage center in this sequel! While Shawn is the quietest of the three brothers, he has no qualms asserting himself with the other two when he needs to – especially where Ciarra is concerned. It is a sheer joy to watch this oh-so-strong alpha male fall willingly in love with the tragic heroine. Although Ciarra fights against falling for Shawn, she fights a losing battle, and the reader has no difficulty understanding why it is so easy for her to fall in love with him. Although the author lays several clues all throughout the story regarding the ‘whodunit’ plot, the big reveal will still come as a surprise to many, albeit one that makes perfect sense when the reader reflects on the previous clues. As with the first in this series, the reader should be conscious of the fact that this story has strong BDSM themes, although the heroine is treated with kindness and respect by her Masters. Readers who remember the Thorenson brothers from before will correctly expect ménage scenes in this book as well. The Charade successfully complements the first book, and succeeds in leaving the readers’ appetite whetted for a possible sequel starring Terrance one day… Have no doubt I will be among the first in line should such a sequel come to fruition!
