Prince E’Falco has returned home to Quadstar and is enjoying his reunion with his family members. Not all is peaceful in his new world, however. Segregation and racism are affecting even E’Falco’s family. Will E’Falco survive the choices he makes in THE DAYSONG OF THE KNIGHTBIRD? THE DAYSONG OF THE KNIGHTBIRD is the second book in a series. The author thoughtfully provides a prologue that details all of the major events that occurred in the first book, THE VIOLET EYES OF JESSE KNIGHT. The world Laurlee Harbig has created is a very complex one, but this prologue provides enough information so that THE DAYSONG OF THE KNIGHTBIRD can be easily read as a stand alone. Laurlee Harbig is starting to really develop as an author and show some of the potential I saw in her first book. The overall plotline has been tightened quite a bit as the story flows beautifully, almost lyrically, at times. There are still some edges that need smoothing out but I am impressed by how this author is developing! In fact, the portions of the story told through E’Falco’s journal entries are true page turners. I couldn’t wait to see what would happen to him and the others he wrote about! Laurlee Harbig tackles some deep issues in THE DAYSONG OF THE KNIGHTBIRD. Racism is always a touchy subject but Ms. Harbig handles it quite sensitively. The fantasy elements involved in “cleansing” help highlight just how extreme racism can be. THE DAYSONG OF THE KNIGHTBIRD is an interesting foray into an equally intriguing world. Laurlee Harbig obviously has devoted a great deal of effort to her craft and it is refreshing to see her growing as the series develops.Reviewed by Debbie |
