It will be the social event of the season when Miss Elizabeth Holland weds New York’s most desired bachelor, Mr. Henry Schoonmaker. However, there are a few people who are not thrilled with the union and will stop at nothing to prevent it from happening. I loved The Luxe! I was instantly engaged by the story, transported back in time to a world of foreign luxuries and a duty to family we don’t see today. This story was written for Young Adults however, it didn’t have that “woe is me” syndrome that tends to be typical in this genre. As a child I was taught not to judge a book by its cover, but I have to honestly admit that the cover is what led me to pick up The Luxe. The moment I picked up this book I was captivated. Godbersen gives the reader just enough of a plot tease to make it impossible to set this book down until you know what happens. The Luxe provides a bit of mystery, an air of romance, a dab of revenge and a pinch of friendship and sisterhood. Each element was brilliantly woven into the story leading the reader seamlessly from one moment to the next. Godbersen drew these characters with an effortless grace and even though they were from a different world, the core of The Luxe is matters of the heart which translates from any century. I am eagerly awaiting the release of Rumors: A Luxe Novel in June 2008. Reviewed by Merry |
