It’s been said that timing is everything and when it comes to matters of the heart we find it to be very true.  In 1765 Pennsylvania as Roger while waiting for the loud thump of the hangman’s scaffolding to end his life regretted that he hadn’t recognized and grasped the happiness that could have been his with the winsome and beautiful blacksmith’s daughter who had given her life in vain for his. Too late, but if only he had a second chance….

Pennsylvania, 2004 and Sunny Black is struggling with the remnants of tree limb knocked down from a storm when her ex-husband and his acquaintance Roger McLeod stopped by to help.  Roger is uncommonly tall, as well as handsome with eyes and a knowing look that seemed to burn into her very soul. Inevitably they drew closer and he confessed to having no childhood memories, no memories beyond the last 15 years but assured her of one thing – he would never leave her and would love her forever.

In this short novella Ms. Ashley aka Robin Maderich packs a wallop of emotion wrapped exquisitely in her intelligent, intriguing, and well written stories and this is no exception.  Talk about second chances, this was a sensually charged character driven foray into a world of what ifs. I loved the concept and the chemistry between the Sunny and Roger sizzled from the very first moment they met.  While the romance sizzled, in the background there was a heart stopping and riveting threat posed by Sunny’s jealous ex-husband that threatened Sunny and Roger’s new-found happiness.  This talented author continues to entertain, no matter what genre she chooses and the reader can always expect a beautifully rendered story, no matter the length, that will engage your emotions and touch your heart.
