Wyldelock is a complex man, full of contradictions and tortured desires. For a while, it is even hard to determine if he is friend or enemy. However the one thing about him readers can count on not changing is his desire to find the one woman who can bring balance to the dark and light halves of his being, breaking the curse binding him to endless torment. Olivia loves her simple life and when it is turned upside down she doesn’t know who to trust. As her love for Wyldelock grows, we see her evolve from an unsure innocent to a powerful and confident woman. Readers will also love to follow her progression as she suddenly realizes her powers and later learns to control them. Dietrick was not always so twisted. It is interesting to follow his story, discovering what caused him to fall farther and farther into the deepest pits of evil darkness. Assumptions are far from correct all the time so when the real catalyst to his destruction is revealed, he grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go. The Sorcerer’s Mark, Ellen Ashe’s first book, already capitalizes on her abilities to write a compelling novel, full of mystery and sensuality that is sure to throw readers for a loop by the time the final page is turned. The story is passionate, fast paced, and veers sharply to the dark side of romance. Evil and danger pervade the senses, looming overhead as we discover nothing is really what it seems, until the shocking moments (yes there are more than one) where the veil of mystery is ripped away, baring all secrets.
