Kegan Blaise is gifted, although she would call it cursed. Her uncontrollable ability to see an item’s history just by touching it prevents her from living a normal life. Yet it is this very talent that awakens the sleeping warrior king, Da’rak. Although awakened early by Kegan, the time is very near for Da’rak to return home to his own planet and prepare for the final tournament to reclaim his throne on Paa’eva, lost to him hundreds of years ago. Is the beautiful seer who awakened him in league with his enemies? No matter, the warrior king cannot take his eyes off her, and soon realizes she is his true mate, and he determines she will return with him to his kingdom. But the enemies that cost him his kingdom years before are waiting to betray him again. And they will stop at nothing… Tournament of Fire is the second book I’ve read by Toni L. Meilleur and it will not be the last! I had the extreme pleasure of reading two of her novels this month and I only regret I did not have the time to read any more of her books. Kegan and Da’rak are well matched: both are equally strong of will, and both have suffered tremendous heartache and isolation. Kegan’s ability keeps her separated from the world, preventing her from touching another human with her bare hands and even from touching objects that have been touched by human hands. In Da’rak, she finds not only a man who loves her for who she is, but who can help her learn to harness her gift. Da’rak. He just flat out does it for me, I have to say. He is as alpha male as an alpha male can get, but he easily shows his tender side when it comes to Kegan. While most certainly dominant, he still treats her with respect, kindness, and most of all – love. Meilleur brings us an intriguing mystery as the backdrop for Da’rak’s and Kegan’s love story, and delivers the end with a great twist to the story that will stun you. The more I read from this author, the more eager I am for her next book!
