Return to the unforgiving Alaskan winter for the conclusion of Tracie Peterson’s Alaskan Quest series. Jayce Kincaid and Jacob Barringer are struggling to survive after their ship became trapped in the ice floes of the arctic. Moored on some unknown peninsula, their supplies are running low, sickness is running rampant, and hope for a rescue is dwindling. Meanwhile, in Last Chance Creek, Leah Kincaid and Helaina Beecham struggle to endure the long separation and the ever growing dread that Jayce and Jacob may not return. Leah wonders if her children will ever have the chance to know their father and Helaina longs for the chance to express her love for Jacob. As new tribulations come their way and loss invades their world, will the four of them find the strength to trust in God’s faithfulness? WHISPERS OF WINTER is a heartfelt, poignant, and fitting end to the special stories that make up Ms. Peterson’s Alaskan Quest series. Once again, Ms. Peterson delves deep into the heart of Alaskan customs and traditions of the time period, penning a richly detailed novel that is a one of a kind treasure. WHISPERS OF WINTER combines an engrossing plot with an uplifting message of God’s faithfulness in the midst of unbearable struggle and loss. This reviewer appreciated the fact that these characters wrestle with their faith in the face of trying times, yet also find the strength to turn to it for comfort as well. Although WHISPERS OF WINTER can probably be enjoyed without the benefit of reading the previous books in the series, it is this reviewer’s recommendation that readers start with the first book and work your way to WHISPERS OF WINTER. To truly appreciate the beauty of this book, you must follow Leah, Helaina, Jayce and Jacob’s journey from the very beginning. WHISPERS OF WINTER may be the conclusion of these characters’ story, yet their struggles, their faithfulness, and the inspiration of all three Alaskan Quest books will remain tucked away in readers’ hearts for a very long time. It is this reviewer’s hope that Ms. Peterson will pen future books set in the enthralling, enigmatic Alaskan territory with characters that are loveable, flawed, and yes, very real. WHISPERS OF WINTER joins both THE SUMMER OF THE MIDNIGHT sun (Alaskan Quest Book 1) and UNDER THE NORTHERN LIGHTS (Alaskan Quest Book 2) on my coveted keeper shelf. They shall remain there, as well as in my heart, for a very long time. Reviewed by Cindy
