In the case of WITH EVERY BREATH, she has taken yet another medieval time travel tale and given it a fresh twist. Giving readers the best of both past and present, Ms. Kurland plays with the threads of time, making WITH EVERY BREATH a novel with exciting twists, poignant turns and a seamless plot. Robert Cameron is another wonderful trademark Kurland hero. As Laird of his clan he is forced to watch his back from his own people who have turned against him. His struggle to do right by his clan despite their hatred makes Robert Cameron one of my favorite heroes. Sunshine Phillips is the perfect match for Laird Cameron. I loved how Ms. Kurland conveys Sunny’s strength and vulnerability. Readers will smile and cry with Sunny as she finds her way back to Robert. And yes, be prepared to have the tissues handy with this book! Readers will also enjoy revisiting the MacLeods. Having read so many previous books featuring these characters, it always feels a bit like coming home when Ms. Kurland writes about them. I especially enjoyed the banter between the MacLeod men and the way they ganged up on Robert in order to try and protect Sunny. However, one of the things I love most about Ms. Kurland’s books is how she always manages to convey sexual tension while keeping with each character’s strong moral values. It is a rare delight to find such a story and proves that a strong compelling romance can be written while keeping the door firmly closed on explicit sex. WITH EVERY BREATH is beautifully written and extremely poignant. There were so many emotional moments in this book that choked me up, and yet, on the other hand, so many instances where I also found myself openly smiling. If you are looking for something different from the norm, a special kind of book that is heartfelt and multi-layered, look no further than WITH EVERY BREATH. It is a tale that will make you believe in the power of love to transcend time. Highly recommended.
